Qualification overview and objective
This qualification is designed for those learners wishing to gain the knowledge and skills required to enable them to provide effective emergency paediatric first aid. Learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction, has breathing difficulties or is suffering from shock. The qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course.

What does the qualification cover?

Topics include:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first-aider
  • Assessing an emergency situation safely
  • CPR and AED
  • Administering first aid to a choking infant or child
  • Putting a casualty in the recovery position
  • Dealing with shocks, bleeds, bites, stings and minor injuries

Entry requirements
Learners are required to be 16 years of age prior to certification and physically capable of completing the practical assessment. It is also advised that learners have a minimum of level 1 in English to enable them to complete the assessment.

The minimum attendance required for this course to go ahead is 4 candidates. If your application exceeds this number or there are insufficient numbers to proceed, you will be offered a date on the next available course. Should you not wish to attend an alternative date, a refund will be issued.
