Security Courses
There are many different job roles within the security industry. Each require a formal qualification relevant to that area within security before you can apply for your SIA licence.
Entry requirements for these qualifications include:
- Learners must be 18 years or older.
- Learners must have a basic level of English. This should be equivalent to SQA Core Skills in Communication at SCQF Level 5 an ESOL qualification at SCQF Level 5 awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and taken in Scotland.
- Learners must have suitable valid identification, including photographic ID or an original birth certificate dated within 12 months of their birth, plus two other forms of ID in line with awarding body requirements.
- Learners must bring a passport style photograph that will be sent to the awarding body with their exams.
A basic disclosure will also be required as part of the licence application process. If you are unsure if this may affect your ability to obtain a licence you should check this through the criminality check on the SIA website before booking a course.
Security Courses
Award CCTV Operators (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6
This qualification is for anyone wishing to be employed as a CCTV operator.
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) recognises that it is essential for all CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) operators to have undergone a structured programme of training.
For public space surveillance a person has to be in possession of a licence issued to them by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
Successful completion of the qualification will enable candidates to apply for a licence to practise which will enable them to work within the CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) industry.
Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6
This qualification is aimed at anyone wanting to work as a door supervisor in the UK.
Under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, all door supervisors must hold a licence to practise issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
The BIIAB Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6 is a nationally recognised qualification and is endorsed by the SIA and accredited by SQA.
Successful completion of this qualification enables a door supervisor to meet one of the requirements to apply for their licence.

Door Supervisors is a qualification that has been developed to meet the mandatory SIA top up training requirement for Door Supervisors.
The qualification is supported by Skills for Security, the Sector Skills Body for the security sector.
Qualified learners who complete the qualification will be eligible to apply to renew their SIA Door Supervisors licence.
Successful completion of this qualification enables a door supervisor to meet one of the requirements to apply for their licence.
